Turning a Local Event into a Regional Attraction

THE BACKSTORY

Dancing in the Streets has become one of Reno's signature summer events, bringing together live music, local businesses, food, and community in the heart of MidTown.

In 2025, the goal wasn't simply to promote another annual event. The objective was to grow attendance, expand awareness beyond Northern Nevada, and create measurable economic impact for the MidTown district and its businesses.

To accomplish that, we needed more than last-minute promotion, we needed to build momentum months before the first band took the stage.

We launched a comprehensive marketing strategy four months before the event, allowing us to build anticipation, introduce sponsors and vendors, and keep the event top-of-mind throughout the summer.

Rather than focusing solely on the event itself, we told the broader story of MidTown, its businesses, people, restaurants, and culture, creating excitement around the entire district, not just one day on the calendar.

The Honeypot Strategy

Early Momentum

We kicked off the campaign four months before the event, allowing us to build awareness gradually instead of relying on a last-minute promotional push. By introducing key event details, sponsors, vendors, and entertainment in phases, we created sustained excitement that kept Dancing in the Streets top of mind and encouraged attendees to mark their calendars well in advance.

Multi-Platform Storytelling

To match the energy of the event, we significantly expanded content production across platforms, increasing Instagram output from 39 to 119 posts while leveraging TikTok to reach audiences beyond Reno's local algorithm. Through a mix of videos, photography, graphics, and behind-the-scenes moments, we showcased the atmosphere of the event and positioned it as a must-attend summer experience worth traveling for.

Community-Driven Promotion

Rather than focusing solely on the event itself, we told the story of the entire MidTown community. Throughout the campaign, we highlighted more than 50 sponsors, featured local vendors, restaurants, retailers, performers, and community partners, and gave attendees countless reasons to explore the district. By making the people and businesses behind the event part of the narrative, we strengthened community buy-in while driving meaningful exposure for those who helped make the event possible.

The Results

The campaign delivered measurable growth both online and on the streets.

Attendance reached a record-setting 30,600 visitors, with more than one in five attendees traveling over 50 miles to experience the event. Beyond the attendance numbers, the campaign helped drive foot traffic throughout MidTown, increasing visibility for participating businesses while strengthening Dancing in the Streets as one of Northern Nevada's premier community events.
