When it comes to building a successful social media presence, it’s tempting to jump right into creating content, posting daily, and trying to keep up with trends. But before you dive in, there’s one crucial step many overlook: getting clear on your who, what, and why. If you're not clear on these 3 things, you’re more likely to feel overwhelmed, stuck, or even frustrated with the results you’re getting. Or maybe it's like your spinning your wheels and not getting traction, whether that's follows or sales. Either way, it's not a good feeling when you feel like you're wasting time and resources.
So, what exactly does it mean to get clear on your who, what, and why?
Your who is the specific audience you’re trying to attract and engage with your content. Your what is all about what you’re offering or showcasing—the core of your content and message. And your why is the deeper reason behind your social media efforts—what drives you, what your purpose is, and why your audience should care. These three things should be at the core of everything you do on social media.
Defining Your Social Media Mission
But it’s more than just knowing these 3 three things. Combined you should be able to come up with a social media mission that aligns with them. Something that inspires you to put your strategy into action, is easy to remember, and keeps you going even on the difficult days. This may or may look a little bit different than your overall company mission. Your social media mission should support your overall mission and act as your guide, ensuring that everything you post, share, or create serves a greater purpose and gets you closer to your goals.
I won’t dive into all the details here (because there’s a lot to unpack), but I will be sharing more about how to define your who, what, why, and create a powerful social media mission in my upcoming Build Buzz Bootcamp. If you’re tired of spinning your wheels or unsure about how your efforts align with your overall goals, stay tuned! I’ll be covering all of this soon and can’t wait to help you build a buzz-worthy social media strategy for your unique biz.
