Raise your hand if you have ever said, “I bought this because I saw a Tik Tok video about it.” Personally, I have done this more times than I can count. I especially love supporting small businesses, and TikTok is an exciting way to discover new ones. I am often drawn in by videos from small business owners on my feed, leading me to purchase or follow the account to stay up to date with their shop.
Drawing from my favorite small business creators on the platform, I am sharing four ways to showcase your business and get those orders rolling in:
1. Hop on a trend
Trends are a fun way to show off the products you have worked so hard on. Whether you are wearing your items in the video or displaying them to the beat of a trending song, the possibilities for fun content are endless. On this platform, trends change from week to week and even day to day, allowing you to show the same products multiple times but in different ways.
2. Package an order
Whenever I purchase from a small business, I look forward to the packaging my item will come in. Small business owners pour love into every package they send out, it is one of the aspects that makes them stand out from large retailers. Packaging order videos are a popular way to show viewers what they can expect when they purchase from you.
Tips:
Speed up the video, so viewers are more likely to watch the entire video.
Talk about your packaging and the thought that went into it as you are putting the order together. Is the packaging sustainable? Do you add your business card or a coupon code with each order? Let your audience know!
Use ASMR to engage viewers. Many creators do not add a song to their video, instead they leave the sound in and amplify the noises that were made in the process. These videos are popular because they are satisfying and relaxing to watch.
3. Behind the scenes
In recent years, supporting small businesses whenever possible has become a priority for many. Consumers feel a sense of pride in making purchases that directly support an individual or a small team. To help potential customers envision exactly who and what they are supporting, you can create engaging behind-the-scenes content.
Video ideas:
How do you organize your products?
What does your workspace look like? How did you personalize it?
What is the process of making your product like?
What does a day in the life of a small business owner look like?
4. Talk about your inspiration
You took your ideas and dreams and made them a reality, how great is that! As you probably know, owning a business requires flexibility, trial and error, and constant changes. Viewers may come to your page to see the products you offer, but they are likely to stay for your personality and candid stories.
Video ideas:
Why did you start this business?
What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?
What is the inspiration behind your latest product launch?
NOTE:
Remember that not every video will go viral, and that is ok! Some videos should be aimed at those who already follow you, while others should be there to attract new potential customers and followers. For example, If you are using the video reply feature to answer a question from a follower, the video will probably not go viral, but followers will see that you are responsive and that they can engage with you. Nurture your relationship with followers by replying to their comments, questions and thanking them if they purchase from you. A genuine connection with them will generate repeat customers.
