As we enter the new year of 2023 it's important to stay updated with social media trends and what is working and what is not. As a social media manager, it is my job to ensure I am ahead of trends for each specific platform for all of my clients.
Not surprisingly, social media will continue to be a vital form of marketing for all types of businesses and companies in 2023. In fact, in research conducted in 2022, it was found that “100% of consumers turn to their favorite platforms for inspiration before making a fashion or lifestyle purchase.” Therefore, investing in your social media presence will remain critical to business success.
The beginning of the year is the perfect time to gear up and take a peak at what we will be seeing work in 2023 in regard to the world of social media.
Authenticity
If you have been a part of the social media world for a while, you have likely seen the shift to more authentic content yourself. Just a few years ago the art of photoshop, Facetune, and posting the happiest-looking photos at the times we are feeling the worst were crowding all social media platforms. But with booming apps such as the rise of TikTok and the even newer app, BeReal, authenticity has exploded. So knowing this, it is important to keep that in mind when posting. Your audiences have been seen to enjoy more real-life content.
Long gone are the days of having the "perfect Instagram aesthetic". We've watched engagement decline drastically on other accounts that choose the outdated approach of sharing only perfectly curated shots.
For businesses like restaurants, posting a real “day in the life” of a server or chef would be a great way to lean into the authenticity trend. For clothing stores, posting things like having to go up a size, or clothes to fit each body type. All in all sharing real-life events, the good and the bad to show your audience you are authentic will be extremely beneficial to your social media engagement in 2023.
User-Generated Content
The second trend I would like to dive into is more UGC or user-generated content. With the rise of influencers and social media “celebrities”, the better it is to have someone else market your brand. I bring up the term social media celebrities because you don't have to have big-name people to market your brand, there are so many people with a larger following, even “local celebrities” that could really help expand the reach of your products or services.
This also taps into the last trend I spoke about, authenticity. When someone else is hyping up your business, product, or service it carries more weight online!
Paid Advertising
Many believe that paid posts will increase even more in the year 2023, so when budgeting for your social media be conscious of maybe adding more to paid posts because this will absolutely help with your social media presence in 2023.
This is something we have recommended more and more to clients as we see a decline in organic reach (especially for any new accounts) and it's definitely working! With just a small budget of $100 allocated to AdSpend we have seen 5x the reach, 2x the engagement, 2x the audience growth, and 5x the link clicks.
Entering a new year always brings changes and excitement, especially in regard to the world of social media. Stay up to date and crush your social media presence this year! You can do it!
